FAQs of Prospective Patients

  • All patients must be at least 18 years old and New York or California residents to be eligible for treatment.

Most eligible patients who are comfortable with a fully online medical platform are suitable for this practice.

Patients eager to make behavioral changes, working professionals with busy schedules, and those interested in discreet, confidential care will find this practice particularly helpful.

  • Anyone under 18 or not residing in New York or California is ineligible for treatment. We are a specialty online medical practice. We do not offer primary care, emergency care, or general psychiatric services. There are also inherent clinical limitations to a virtual practice. Patients seeking any of the aforementioned services or requiring a higher level of medical or psychiatric care may not be a good fit.

Patients who should consider seeking treatment elsewhere include:

    • Anyone seeking care unrelated to substance use

    • Anyone actively withdrawing who has previously been hospitalized for withdrawal management

    • Anyone requiring a pacemaker or home oxygen

  • We prescribe all FDA-approved oral medications for substance use treatment with the exception of methadone due to federal restrictions. We prescribe a wide array of evidence-based off-label medications for substance use treatment. We may also prescribe medications to treat mental health conditions related to substance use (e.g. anxiety, depression, insomnia).

The only opioid medications we prescribe are oral formulations of buprenorphine-naloxone (e.g. Suboxone, Zubsolv, Bunavail). We do not prescribe any full agonist opioids such as methadone, hydrocodone, tramadol, oxycodone, morphine, or hydromorphone.

  • In select circumstances (e.g. tapering of benzodiazepines or maintenance treatment with buprenorphine), we do offer prescriptions for controlled substances.

However in accordance with DEA regulations, anyone seeking management of controlled substances will need an annual referral from an in-person provider (e.g. a primary care provider or psychiatric provider) in order to receive controlled substances. We can provide referral forms if needed.

  • We cannot treat anyone on Medicare, either in-network or out-of-network.

We accept many PPO insurance plans in New York and California. You can check if yours is in-network here.

We also can offer itemized bills to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement if needed for all patients seeking out-of-network care. Again, please note, that we currently cannot see Medicare patients out-of-network.

  • We recommend a free 15 minute phone consultation to walk you through the scheduling process.

  • Our first visit will last approximately 60 minutes. It will be an initial detoxification assessment or an intake visit depending on your needs. We will review your current life situation, your emotional symptoms, your past history and treatment, details of your environment and social life, and relevant family information. We will go over any medical conditions you have and medications you are taking.

We will spend a significant amount of time going over your diagnosis, treatment options, and the safety of your current medications if relevant. We will wrap up by creating a comprehensive treatment plan.

  • The type of psychotherapy will depend on your individual goals and needs. It may include insight-oriented treatment, motivation enhancement, cognitive and behavioral skill building, mindfulness based relapse prevention, and more. In our first few visits, we will outline your goals and collaborate to develop the treatment plan best suited to achieve them.
